Changing the world one byte at a time

This blog documents my exploration of the world of Open Source software as a contributor.  While I’ve always been a supporter of free & open source solutions, I haven’t had the time or technical skills to contribute to it.  With my recent career shift to web development, I’m now developing my skills in programming.  What better way to practice than to contribute to an open source project?

In December 2012 I was accepted to the Spring 2013 GNOME Outreach Program for Women internship (OPW), which has provided some structure and funding for my first open source project.

As a woman entering a field with a gender ratio that’s heavily imbalanced towards men, I am also interested to know how other women navigate this issue as it’s sure to come up for me as well.
